FDA set aside its exclusion of NMN from the dietary supplement definition
FDA reconsidered and changed its interpretation of one aspect of 21 U.S.C. § 321(ff)(3)(B) and determined that NMN is not excluded from the dietary supplement definition, in its response to an amended citizen petition from the Natural Products Association and the Alliance for Natural Health USA. The petition was received on 6 March 2023.

Five NMN notifications appear on the public record: NDIN 1189 and 1234 (Willy Chemicals / Willy Nutra, responses dated 11 February 2021 and 18 January 2022), NDIN 1240 and 1247 (SyncoZymes (Shanghai) Co., Ltd., responses dated 24 February 2022 and 16 May 2022) and NDIN 1259 (Inner Mongolia Kingdomway Pharmaceutical Limited). - Degradation kinetics in aqueous solution and the HPLC method used to follow itReported that degradation of NMN in aqueous solution followed apparent first-order kinetics, with the rate governed mainly by temperature and pH. NMN was reported to be more stable at low temperature and in neutral or weakly acidic conditions, while strong acid or strong alkali accelerated degradation, and the degradation rate was reported to be less affected by pepsin and trypsin.
